St. Nicholas Breaker

I have always had a special appreciation for large industrial buildings - not on the level of exploitation that occurs within them, but for the buildings themselves. Massive structures asserting their dominance over the land. Below are some pictures I've taken that I think illustrate multiple themes found throughout life, especially with decay.

These pictures are from Mahanoy City, PA. They are pictures of the St. Nicholas coal breaker.

That was the breaker then... here are some pictures of it now:

Nice travelogue ... I want to see more of that pile of coal! How ancient is coal and as its juxtaposed to the industrial building it is so pertinant to our research! Plus, coal burns HOT!!!

You presentation today was really interesting.. this part of it made me think of Cloverleaf Mall that was abandoned when grand ol' Short Pump Mall moved in. It is really devastating to have such a big empty space not being utilized for anything... even if it is better, like the coal plant, that it isn't up and running. It could be used for something!
